Education – Capacity Building
Objective: Develop partnerships to expand the range of local English as a Second Language (ESL) services and resources
- Create a partnership of organizations and schools that deliver ESL services in order to identify gaps, successes, and synergies – identify contact person in each organization
- Create a peer network for ESL teachers to share resources and experiences
What's Happening?
Community ESL Capacity Enhancement – A new ESL program started in January 2013 at the YMCA. It is a free, informal beginner class and is run by a volunteer teacher. Registration is done at the NCC and is open to non-NCC and non-YMCA clients. The class will be offered again in the fall.
ESL Forum - Formed in summer 2012, the ESL Forum is a partnership of community organizations, service providers schools and individuals that deliver or have an interest in the provision of ESL services and are committed to improving the quality and range of ESL services in Peterborough and improving access to local ESL services for all ages and abilities. This initiative is supported by Ontario Trillium Foundation.
