In 2006, Kantu met the love of her life, a Canadian tourist visiting her hometown of Cuzco, Peru. By the end of his visit, it was decided: Kantu was coming to Canada. The first obstacle was obtaining a visa. Her first application had been declined but this did not discourage her from trying again a short time later. |

PPCII CouncilThe PPCII exists for promoting, advancing and supporting coordinated immigrant integration (broadly-defined) in our community. We believe immigrant integration is essential for long-term social, cultural, economic and environmental prosperity in the Peterborough region. The council meets on a bi-monthly basis, and is supported by the work of five committees that meet outside of the council. For the full listing of meeting dates for 2012, please click here.

It sets the agenda for PPCII meetings, and ensures that the PPCII meets its contractual obligations. Integration Strategy Committee

Marketing CommitteeThe Marketing Committee (MC) is responsible for promoting education and awareness of the PPCII’s work. The MC has worked to develop the PPCII’s branding (i.e., logo, letterhead, business card, brochure and website). In the next year, the MC will be developing sector-specific information presentations to recruit potential PPCII members. These presentations will also facilitate information-sharing within the PPCII, and facilitate capacity-building within PPCII member organisations. Newcomers Advisory GroupOur Newcomers Advisory Group (NAG) is comprised of immigrants who provide input on PPCII initiatives. Resource Development CommitteeThe Resource Development Committee (RDC) was initiated in 2010. It began with the division of the Resource Development and Marketing Committee into two distinct committees: the Marketing Committee and the Funders Roundtable In 2011, the committee renamed itself the Resource Development Committee to reflect the breadth of its duties and mandate. The RDC oversees the PPCII’s resource development initiatives, which includes, but is not limited to; annual fundraising events, participating in fundraising initiatives, researching and responding to calls for proposals and funding opportunities, identifying sources of resources for the PPCII and sharing promoting these initiatives where necessary. Training and Capacity-BuildingThe Training and Capacity Building Committee (TCBC) was originally formed as ad hoc Conference Planning Sub-committee in 2010 to prepare for the Together We Prosper conference. In November of 2010 it was decided that the Training and Capacity Building become a full Standing Committee with the Peterborough Partnership PPCII on Immigrant Integration (the PPCII). The committee will not duplicate the work of the education and training sector partners in the community, but rather address capacity building for the PPCII members themselves, as well as identified target groups as identified by the PPCII Integration Strategy. The Integration Strategy Committee (ISC) is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Integration Strategy. The ISC has engaged researchers to conduct a series of focus groups aimed at establishing the experiences of and barriers to immigrant integration in the Peterborough community. Key representatives of the housing, education, health and social services sector were invited to attend these focus groups. A separate focus group was held to seek the input of immigrant newcomers to the community.
