Partnerships

photo-ppcii-17The PPCII’s mandate broad membership base provides us with a unique opportunity to facilitate inter- and intra-sectoral collaborations on immigration-related initiatives.

For example, we worked with the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Development Board, and the New Canadians Centre Peterborough to submit a funding proposal to the Ontario Chamber of Commerceto establish a business integration advisory centre. If approved, the proposed centre will provide many services to small- to medium-sized employers (SMEs) with the goal of ultimately improving labour market access and outcomes for both existing and newly arrived immigrants. These services will include one-on-one business consulting to recruit and hire foreign-trained workers, support accreditation processes, and create work cultures and resources to retain immigrant employees

We will also be working closely with Professor Davina Bhandar of the Canadian Studies Department at Trent University to establish linkages between the research needs of the PPCII and the expertise of faculty members and graduate students at Trent University. The goal of the proposed network will be to build a durable infrastructure to:

  • support policy and best-practice research,
  • forge connections between researchers, local stakeholders and government agencies, and
  • facilitate funding applications to ensure the longevity of the network

It is anticipated that this network will be a member of the Welcoming Communities Initiative, which promotes academic-community collaborations to support newcomer inclusion in small- to medium-sized cities.

Please contact us to explore potential opportunities in which we can collaborate.

Outreach

The PPCII works closely with the New Canadians Centre Peterborough to provide education to the general public about issues related to immigration. Examples of presentation topics include: the difference between the immigration classes, barriers faced in settlement, and cross-cultural communication.
