Housing & Transportation - Opportunities for Participation
Thursday, 19 May 2011 12:26

Objective: Involve immigrants in discussions regarding availability of and access to housing and transportation

Housing & Transportation – Opportunities for Participation

3.1       Create a collaborative mediation group to address conflicts between renters and landlords

3.2       Provide language specific training to access housing services and enhance ability to speak to landlords

What’s Happening!

Newcomer Housing Research Project: This project will be jointly supervised by the PPCII and another organization in Peterborough that is focused on housing. The student will first research the barriers to housing faced by migrants (as found in current settlement literature, or through conducting focus groups). And work with different landlord and tenant organizations to promote education and awareness of newcomer issues in housing, and create a project that would facilitate a conversation between landlords, settlement workers, and newcomers in the area of migrant housing.

What You Can Do to Get Involved!

The PPCII is looking to partner with any organization interested in supervising housing and transportation projects for Trent Centre for Community Based Education (TCCBE) Projects. If your organization has a particular expertise in housing and/or transportation, and would like to supervise a project that involves researching the housing needs of newcomers, please contact Safo Musta at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
