Objective: Connect immigrants to appropriate services 2.1 Develop mentoring/partnering program for initial introduction to local area 2.2 Offer wrap around services (help in housing, transportation, clothing, education) to meet immediate and ongoing needs 2.3 Assist newcomers in accessing or obtaining adequate/appropriate documents in order to obtain services 2.4 Provide translation services 2.5 Provide service directories to municipal offices 2.6 Translate integration strategy into multiple languages
What’s Happening? The Host friendship program introduces new Canadians to local volunteers to: practice English, go for a coffee, learn more about your town, meet other people, go for a hike, see a show or go to an event. The Host friendship program is popular with local volunteers and newcomers in the Peterborough area. The program allows newcomers to create friendships, improve their English, and get to know more about their community. More information for participants and volunteers is available here. NCC Settlement Services: The New Canadians Centre provides settlement services to anyone born outside of Canada who is living in the Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton or Northumberland regions. For more information about settlement services at the New Canadians Centre, click here. Newcomer's Guide to Services: The Workforce Development Board has developed a guide for newcomers to the Peterborough area. To download a copy of the guide, click here. Central Eastern Ontario Translation and Interpretation Services (Paid Service) - Through the New Canadians Centre, newcomers can access translation and interpretation services for a fee. More information can be found here.
What You Can Do to Get Involved! The New Canadians Centre is always looking for volunteers for its programs and projects.
