Who are the immigrants to Canada?

In this clip, Carmela addresses the 60 percent of immigrants who are admitted to Canada through the point system. She stresses that it is often the best and brightest from their countries of origin who immigrate to Canada - too often without finding work in line with their education and professional qualifications on the basis of which Immigration Canada admitted them.

Objective: Improve the immigrant ‘friendliness’ of government and social service programs and workplace policies

4.1       Develop a dedicated newcomer outreach centre

4.2       Publish online information in the language(s) of the targeted population(s)

4.3       Ensure information on the impact of climate on one’s health is included in information for potential immigrants

4.4       Develop immigrant friendly policies in agencies

4.5       Lobby to create an equity/diversity position at city hall

 

What’s Happening?

Newcomer Immigration Toolkit - The Newcomer Integration Toolkit provides physical and human resources that will aid in the building of community capacity to support immigrant integration and social inclusion. The toolkit aims to support social service agencies by providing resources, practical supports and best practices that will enable the community to better meet the unique needs of newcomers. The toolkit is the product of collaboration between the Peterborough Partnership Council on Immigrant Integration, New Canadians Centre and Community and Race Relations Committee.
