Objective: Build the capacity and scope of settlement and social services 1.1 Use the New Canadians Centre’s Newcomer Integration ToolKit to build capacity of social service providers 1.2 Train immigrant-serving professionals on successful interactions with different cultures; prepare them to support people who may have had traumatic experiences with government administration or authority 1.3 Develop methods to help people negotiate in a cross cultural setting 1.4 Provide diversity training to child care providers 1.5 Expand immigrant serving organizations What’s Happening? Newcomer Immigration Toolkit: The Newcomer Integration Toolkit provides physical and human resources that will aid in the building of community capacity to support immigrant integration and social inclusion. The toolkit aims to support social service agencies by providing resources, practical supports and best practices that will enable the community to better meet the unique needs of newcomers. The toolkit is the product of collaboration between the Peterborough Partnership Council on Immigrant Integration, New Canadians Centre and Community and Race Relations Committee. PPCII Consensus based Decision Making Workshop - In February and March of 2011, the Partnership Council members received training on how to run an organization based on consensus. The training was facilitated by OPIRG, and the council hopes it will go far in making the administration of the council more inclusive. Community Race Relations Training - "Communicating with Children Across Cultures: In June of 2011, the PPCII, New Canadians Centre, and Community Race Relations Committee organized a professional development workshop, to teach ECE workers to help newcomer children integrate into their programs, and Incorporate cultures into the curriculum. What You Can Do to Get Involved! The best way to expand your organization’s understanding of immigrant itegration and social inclusion is to participate in a training session through the Community and Race Relations Committee.
