It was the winter of 1962 when Sandy came to Canada; he had little more than light weight Naval clothing, unprepared for the winter ahead. Before this, Sandy was a member of the Indian Navy studying electrical aviation in England. It was here he met his wife, Pat, only to be discharged from the Navy as marrying a foreign national was not allowed. |

Khadija Warsame fled the civil war in Somalia in 1994. With her three children, she lived in a refugee camp in Malawi for six years before finally being accepted by Canada, a country that she knew nothing about. She was sponsored by two Peterborough churches and has lived in the city for the past 11 years. She works supporting other immigrants new to the city in need of help and advice. From Somalia via Malawi to Canada:
In this clip she reflects on life in Peterborough, Canadian culture, and how she deals with those who have problems with immigrants.
